Kimberly Silva

Board Chair

 

Ms. Silva is a founder of the ASL Academy and the mother of a deaf son, Thomas, and hearing twins, Nicholas and Gracie. Ms. Silva previously served as a Commissioner for the New Mexico Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons, and is also a former member of the New Mexico Deaf and Hard of Hearing Educational Task Force. She is dedicated to the ideals and mission of the ASL Academy and to ensuring that all families have quality educational options for their deaf and hard of hearing children.

Dana Grubesic

Board Secretary

 

Ms. Grubesic was admitted to the New Mexico State Bar in 1992. She is a former Director of the New Mexico Children’s Cabinet and is currently in private practice. At present, Ms. Grubesic is a member of the Albuquerque Academy Alumni Association.  

Jane Cavanaugh

Board Treasurer

 

Ms. Cavanaugh is currently the Director of Business Software for REDW Business & Financial Resources, LLC (REDW Technologies, LLC) where she has worked for nearly 30 years. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico. Ms. Cavanaugh is a Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Elizabeth Barker Keefe, PhD

Member

 

Dr. Keefe is a Professor for the University of New Mexico Special Education Department. She is also the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Dual Licensure Program.  She assisted with the creation of the Consortium of Interdisiplinary Resident Educators (CIRE), a revolutionary teacher training partnership between the ASL Academy and the University of New Mexico. The CIRE program will produce teachers specifically trained to meet the unique educatioanl needs of ASL Academy students.

 

Monthly Governance Board meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 4:00pm at The ASL Academy, 620 Lomas Blvd. NW, Room C, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Meetings are open to the public and an ASL interpreter is provided. To request additional reasonable accommodations, please submit your request in writing via email (CarolinaQ@ASLAcademy.com) or regular mail to be received no later than 6 days prior to the meeting.  The Annual Budget Meeting for the Upcoming School Year is held during the regularly scheduled May meeting.

 

Any person who desires to be considered for one of the Elective Positions on the Board shall submit a letter of interest and resume to the Board no later than August 1st of each year.  At the August Board meeting, the Board shall vote to approve or disapprove, as a whole, any candidates for any open position(s) based on the qualifications outlined in Article II Section 2 of the Bylaws. If approved, all such candidates shall be placed on the election ballot at the Annual Meeting held in September. Letters of interest can be mailed to the school at 620 Lomas Blvd NW, Albq. NM 87102 to the attention of the Board Chair.

Yancey Ranspot

Mr. Ranspot is the parent of a deaf daughter who currently attends and a hearing daughter who graduated from the ASL Academy. He is employed with the US Forest Service and is committed to providing all ASL Academy students with opportunities through environmental education and  The Rocky Mountain Youth Corp.
