Partnering with APD: A TEDx Talk with Rafe Martinez
In an effort to create meaningful and positive connections between the deaf community and the Albuquerque Police Department, the ASL Academy opened its doors to APD on a daily basis. The school is a place for them to grab a cup of coffee, take a break from the heat, or use the wifi to write reports. Students have an opportunity to connect with officers and learn about their work and the officers learn about the deaf community to increase trust and understanding between the two groups.
Awards
The New Mexico Coalition for Charter Schools named the ASL Academy Charter School of the Year for the 2013/2014 school year! The ASL Academy exemplifies the importance of charter schools as an educational option for children with limited choices of specialized programming.
National Anthem at Isotopes Park

PEAR
We are the only school in New Mexico to work with Harvard’s P.E.A.R Institute in developing a system of school-embedded social-emotional programming for all students.
As the leader in deaf education reform in New Mexico, the ASL Academy continues to pursue options which will enrich the lives of our students with special needs. Our partnership with Dr. Gil Noam and the P.E.A.R. Institute (a collaboration between Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital) provides an innovative assessment tool that will further the ASL Academy's mission by designing programs which ensure children are healthier mentally, emotionally, and academically.
